Road design and maintenance are shaped not just by technical standards but also by the decisions made on the ground—by engineers, contractors, and site supervisors. Ensuring our streets are safe, inclusive, and resilient requires clear guidelines that translate policy into action.
Mod Foundation, in collaboration with Namma Raste, is proud to present a first-of-its-kind Illustrated Handbook, developed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This guide simplifies complex Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), making road planning, contracting, and maintenance more accessible and actionable to engineers, contractors and others working on the ground.
With clear visuals and user-friendly language, this handbook bridges the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that Bengaluru’s streets are designed to be pedestrian-friendly, utility-smart, and future-ready.
The Illustrated Handbook has been adapted from the Namma Raste Kaipidi (Manual), originally developed by WRI India and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Sustainability Lab.
