The property originally housed the Bangalore Lunatic Asylum which was founded in 1847. Later in 1913, this became the first branch and main headquarters of the State Bank of Mysore, which has now been merged with the State Bank of India. This is one of the landmark junctions of the city and is still popularly referred to as the Mysore Bank Circle.
