The Stormwater Datajam invites participants to explore Bengaluru’s stormwater drain (SWD) systems through collaborative, data-driven investigation. Using datasets generated from guided citizen audits across the city, participants will examine how stormwater infrastructure functions, identify causes of localised flooding, and explore improvements needed across different parts of the network.  

Datajams are day-long, in-person events that bring people together to work creatively with data. Participants form teams of 5–6 members, choose a problem to investigate, and analyse possible solutions using available datasets. Throughout the day, teams collaborate, interpret findings, and develop proposals, before presenting their ideas to peers and experts. The outcomes are documented online as articles, contributing creative insights to public discourse and supporting innovative approaches for better cities for governments and other stakeholders to consider. 

The Datajam is part of Building a Resilient Bengaluru, an initiative by Mod Foundation in partnership with Oorvani Foundation, supported by the Bengaluru Sustainability Forum Small Grants Programme. The initiative combines an online masterclass, Guided Citizen Audits, and the Datajam to deepen understanding of Bengaluru’s stormwater systems and build a shared, public evidence base on their condition, governance, and everyday challenges. All audit data feeds into a public, open-access dashboard and an interactive stormwater map, making citizen observations visible, comparable, and usable for wider civic and planning conversations.
